The Scorecard – Wichita Falls, Texas – Unit 353 February 2020
We are living in a unique time of isolation from our bridge friends. I know that we are missing our bridge friendships, the friendly competition, and the physical and mental challenge of playing the game of bridge. I am praying for the health and well-being of all my bridge friends and their families. I know that this situation is difficult but we must protect ourselves and each other from the Coronavirus. I hope everyone is able to keep up their practice by playing bridge online. If anyone needs anything please reach out and ask for assistance. Life does forward and we will get through this time of isolation. For now, stay safe. I have coped with anxiety most of my life. I want to share some ways to help you find balance and ease during this unprecedented time of isolation. Create a schedule for your day. Accomplish something - even if it just making your bed or cleaning out a stack of magazines. Find a pattern of eating so that you do not end up snacking all day. Go outside and get some fresh air. Take a walk around your yard. Listen to some favorite music. Notice your thoughts and choose positive words to say to yourself. “Everything is going to be alright.” “This, too, shall pass.” Sit taller in your chair and take some deep breaths. Choose a breath prayer - remember to inhale on the first phrase and exhale on the second. Choose one that speaks to you: “Be still, and know that you are God.” , “When I am afraid, I will trust you.”, “There is not fear, in love.”, “Nothing can separate me, from the love of God.”, and “You are my refuge, and my strength.” It is good to celebrate the achievement of others. Each year, ACBL units present the Ace of Clubs and Mini-McKenney awards to unit members. The Ace of Clubs certificates are awarded to players in each unit who earn the most black master points during the previous year. The Mini-McKenney medals are awarded to players in each unit who earn the most masterpoints of any color during the previous year. Our club recognized the following members who won both the Mini-McKenney and the Ace of Clubs Award for 2019: Robert Kerr (0-5), Janet Bergman (20-50), Betsy Smith (50-100), Martin Blecha (100-200), Marsha May (200-300), Patricia Robinson (300-500), Nancy Purcell (500-1000), Wand Hughes (1000-1500), Margaret Kirkland (1500-2500), Kathleen Brown (2500-3500), Anne Halsell (3500-5000), Susan Couch (5000-7500). Our thought and prayers were with Babara Kleinecke in the death of her husband, Gail Simpson in the death of her husband, and Betsy Smith as she went through an upper respiratory illness. We will continue to pray for these people as well as our entire bridge unit for the health and well-being of all members of our bridge unit.
